My first semester at Surrey
Aisha is a final year student studying Business Management in the Surrey School of Business. Here she tells us about her first semester of her third year.
My first semester at Surrey was one to remember. As a final year student, I made sure to make the most out of it as this is my last year at university. I enjoyed my modules, especially the political communications module which challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and engage critically with my work.
The lakeside
After classes, my friends and I usually hang out by the lake almost every day. It may sound cliche, but we never get tired of the beautiful view of the lakeside. We spend some time there enjoying nature and reminiscing about our lives and future after graduation.

Every Thursday we hang out at the food market where there are different varieties of stands to choose from, but our favourite meal is the chicken shawarma.
Hanging out in the library
During the assessment period, my friend and I make good use of the 24/7 library on campus as we prefer working at night rather than in the afternoon. Even outside the assessment period, my friends and I usually hang out at the library for the most part as the final year comes with so much work. The fifth floor is where we usually study and get some work done.
We take breaks from time to time to get some refreshments from Simply Fresh which is right at the ground floor or sometimes walk around the campus for a bit to stretch our legs and get some fresh air.
Life after lockdown
My first semester as a final year student has made me change my lifestyle for the better, especially after spending my entire second year in a lockdown. During the lockdown period, I felt demotivated some of the time, which was difficult. However, moving out of lockdown and, with classes resuming in-person, my time management and overall motivation to study has improved. I have a balanced life between studies and life outside of school.

Clubs and societies
At Surrey, there are so many activities and societies to take part in. I am in the Wok Society where we hold sessions every Wednesday to talk about different societal issues or rather topics centred around lifestyle, and we usually debate different points of view. I always look forward to Wednesdays because I know there is always something interesting to discuss during the sessions.
