This week, we’re shining a spotlight on Zhuohan Hu, an undergraduate student on the BSc International Hospitality Management course at Surrey.

After hearing about initial PPE shortages in the UK, Zhouhan donated over 500 medical-grade face masks from China to the University, to help staff in the Estates and Facilities team stay safe on campus.

Originally from China, Zhouhan returned home to be with his family during the Covid-19 pandemic. He’s currently studying remotely, connecting to his tutors and lectures in Surrey.

Speaking about studying remotely, Zhuohan said: "All my tutors are giving me really helpful advice on how to use Microsoft Outlook and SurreyLearn effectively."

Zhuohan is even finding time to write fiction and teach himself computer programming.

Regarding his donation, he said: “As a student at the University of Surrey, I felt that it was my responsibility to help my university - I was merely doing my part.”
