Surrey number six for aerospace engineering
The University’s undergraduate Aerospace Engineering course has soared to sixth place in the Complete University Guide 2016.
The latest figures reveal that Surrey’s Aerospace Engineering course has risen two places to occupy the number six spot, while overall, the University of Surrey has leapt up four places to become the eighth best university in the UK. This consolidates the University’s rise up the major league tables in recent years, and its sixth place ranking in The Guardian University Guide 2015.
Aerospace engineering is one of four engineering subjects at Surrey to be ranked in the Complete University Guide’s top ten, with medical engineering in seventh place, and both civil engineering and electronic engineering at number eight.
The Complete University Guide is based on performance in a number of key areas including student satisfaction, entry standards, graduate job prospects and quality of research. According to the latest league table, 88 per cent of Aerospace Engineering students have found a job within six months of completing their course.
The programme also scores very highly for student satisfaction. In the 2014 National Student Survey (NSS), Aerospace Engineering programmes at Surrey were ranked at seventh place, with students giving the subject a 93 per cent satisfaction rating for its learning resources (up four places the previous year) and an overall satisfaction score of 86 per cent.
Head of Surrey’s Department of Mechanical Engineering Sciences, Professor Julie Yeomans, said, “The success of our Aerospace Engineering course is based on our continual investment in the best academic staff and facilities, which include our Rolls-Royce Technology Centre. Our close links with industry and our renowned Professional Training placement programme enable us to offer a strong, industrially-relevant programme, which is reflected by our excellent graduate employment record.”
The league table, full methodology and other information are available on the Complete University Guide website.
