Travel and transport - moving towards a greener future
The Civil Service Climate and Environment Network (CSCEN) hosted a talk on travel and transport - moving towards a greener future. CSCEN is the largest cross-government network with more than 10,000 members across 130 government departments and agencies, aiming to break down silos, build capabilities and inspire civil servants in the UK.

Dr Nikolas Thomopoulos, Associate Professor in Transport within Surrey Business School, co-leading the Sustainable Transport and Mobility Programme of the Institute for Sustainability, was one of the experts who spoke at this event alongside:
- Helen Leadbetter, Technical Strategy Lead, Zero Emissions Flight at the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UKCAA)
- Richard Bruce, a Director at the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) at the Department for Transport (DfT).
Dr Thomopoulos's presentation was about co-creating new mobility services based on his past UK and international research projects, e.g. the ESRC-IAA (European Social Research Council-Impact Acceleration Account) project.
This event was attended by more than 115 attendees and will be available online as a permanent resource for civil servants in the UK.
Helen Leadbetter introduced ongoing UKCAA initiatives to meet zero-emission targets in the aviation sector, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Richard Bruce offered a comprehensive overview about the transition to Electric Vehicles (EV). His presentation included supply and demand issues, as well as ongoing challenges e.g. consumer experience and range anxiety or charging infrastructure and payment options. Nikolas Thomopoulos presented about co-creating new mobility services based on his past UK and international research projects. His focus on autonomous vehicles, EVs and travel illustration graphs offered valuable insight and future recommendations to UK civil servants.
