Your future in nursing

A degree in nursing studies will equip you with the experience, skills and knowledge needed to start your career in this rewarding field. Discover more about our undergraduate courses and what your future could hold.

Choosing your field

Our undergraduate adultchild and mental health nursing courses are accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), which means that on successful completion of your studies, you’ll have the academic requirements needed to register to work as a nurse in your chosen field.

Child nurse

As a child nurse, you’ll care for infants, children and young people, in a variety of settings. You’ll also support and educate families, so they can be involved in their child’s care. As well as the physical health of your patients, you'll also have safeguarding responsibilities and promote public health.

Adult nurse

Meet the diverse needs of patients aged 16 and over and support their families as an adult nurse. With the skills and knowledge gained from your degree, you'll play a vital role in the pastoral and physical care of your patients. Watch our academic team share their inspiring stories about becoming an adult nurse

Mental health nurse

As a mental health nurse, you'll support people experiencing mental health difficulties and their families. In your role, you'll empower people on their recovery journeys, and deliver effective, evidence-based care to people.

Visit the NHS careers website for further information about the different roles in nursing.

Your career, your choice

Nursing is the largest healthcare profession in the UK. Across the country, you'll find nurses working in a range of settings including hospitals, GP surgeries, people’s homes and the wider community. There are also specialist areas that nurses occupy in care homes, schools, hospices, mental health agencies, the military and in industry.

Employers

Our alumni can be found working for NHS trusts across the UK, with recent graduates working for:

  • Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

100 per cent of our health sciences graduates go on to employment or further study (Graduate Outcomes 2023, HESA).

Locations

With your NMC registration, you’ll be eligible to work across the UK. You can also use your qualification to practise outside of the UK, within the EU or further afield.
