Using Artificial Intelligence to Predict Residential Planning Applications: Developing a Novel Framework to Mitigate the Difficulties of the UK Planning SystemThe focus of my research is to investigate the use of Artificial Intelligence in mitigating a multitude of inhibiting housing supply factors associated with the UK residential planning system. The research has intense focus on investigating the effectiveness of knowledge and rule extraction techniques in extracting relevant natural language information from planning documentation. The appropriability and potential effectiveness of the findings will direct the research focus towards potentially developing novel knowledge extraction techniques. Hereafter, the research will divert towards investigating the use of Machine and Deep Learning in predicting residential planning application outcomes. A broad literature review exploring the use of Machine and Deep Learning in predicting similar decisions in adjacent domains will be conducted. Based upon the research findings, a Machine and Deep Learning tool is developed with a stance of practical implementation. Development of a novel prediction tool, and thus the practical adoption, is influenced by industry partners.
