Social Cohesion and Diaspora Life: Spontaneous Mass-Gatherings Events, Parenthood, and Community Formation in the Hong Kong UK DiasporaMy PhD project examines spontaneous mass-gathering events as sites of social cohesion within the post-2020 Hong Kong diaspora in the UK. Drawing on social movement theory and social cohesion theory, I investigate how these events—from protests to community gatherings, function as spaces where diaspora members negotiate identity, belonging, and community cohesion. A particular focus is the intersection of diaspora life and parenthood, exploring how family dimensions shape participation in and experiences of these collective events. Through a manuscript-based approach, my research contributes to understanding how spontaneous mobilisation and event participation sustain social bonds, cultural identity, and collective action in diaspora communities.
