Lydia Melville

Lydia's role as the Institute’s Communication Officer aims to connect the broad range of sustainable research at the University with its various local, national and international audiences across social media, newsletters and events. Lydia works closely with other communication and marketing teams within the University of Surrey in addition to external contacts across Surrey and beyond.  

With a background in Biomedical Sciences, Lydia has a passion to convey complex science topics to broad audiences. Her work also strives to improve diversity and access to science, such as by breaking down barriers to science within education and local communities.

Lydia gained a MSc in Science Communication at ICL in 2020. During her studies, she worked on the frontline at the NHS in COVID-19 diagnostics. Since graduating, Lydia has gained a range of experience by working in public relations, other research institutes and the charity sector before joining Surrey in 2023.
