"I strongly encourage students to pursue placements, as the process itself is a great learning experience. Even before starting the role, I’ve already developed interview skills, industry awareness, and resilience."

Describe your placement experience:

Although I haven’t started my placement yet, securing a role at ITH Pharma as an Operator has already been a significant achievement. The selection process was challenging and thorough, involving multiple assessments and interviews, which tested my technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and ability to work under pressure. Successfully navigating this process has boosted my confidence and reassured me that I am ready to apply my skills in a real-world pharmaceutical environment. I appreciate the TWIN Group and the University of Surrey placement team for their support throughout the process.

What were the best things about it?

So far, the best part has been the learning experience gained through the interview and selection process. It tested my attention to detail, communication skills, and industry knowledge, preparing me for the challenges ahead. The process also helped me understand what employers look for in a pharmaceutical operator, which will be invaluable as I begin my placement. I’m looking forward to gaining hands-on experience in GMP-compliant manufacturing, quality control, and pharmaceutical production techniques when I officially start.

Have your career plans been informed by your placement?

Yes, even before starting, this placement has reinforced my commitment to the pharmaceutical industry. The rigorous selection process made me realize how much I enjoy problem-solving in a regulated environment and how essential precision, compliance, and efficiency are in pharmaceutical operations. I’m excited to start my placement and gain insights into manufacturing processes, regulatory standards, and operational best practices, which will shape my future career path in this industry.

What advice do you have for students considering doing a placement?

I strongly encourage students to pursue placements, as the process itself is a great learning experience. Even before starting the role, I’ve already developed interview skills, industry awareness, and resilience. My advice is to prepare thoroughly, research the company, and practice technical and competency-based questions to stand out in the selection process. Also, take advantage of the TWIN Group and University of Surrey placement team, as their guidance is invaluable. A placement is a fantastic stepping stone to future career opportunities!
