Entry year

2021

I chose to study an MRes in economics to better equip myself with the essential mathematic economic tools for the PhD programme. At Surrey you get a great learning experience and a friendly teacher-student community.

The teaching

The teachers are supportive and keen on the students learning and development. There is great interaction between lecturers and students in and out of lectures, which allows for better learning for the students.

The modules

I don’t have any favourite modules in particular but I appreciate the content of the research method module. This covers the use of mathematical logic and reasoning in mathematics which further provides a better understanding of the mathematical aspect of economics.

The community

The MRes students are fully absorbed into the School of Economics and provided with all the resources needed to prepare adequately for a successful PhD programme. Some of the resources available include desktops for each student, access to organised research seminars (both internal and external seminars), workshops, presentations, research assistant roles and many more.

The future

I aim to contribute to academic research in economics during the PhD programme and ultimately aspire to work as a policy adviser on economic issues, possibly through a position in an international institution.
