Course

Musical Theatre BA (Hons)

Choosing Guildford School of Acting at the University of Surrey

I chose to study the Musical Theatre course at GSA for its reputation of graduates being professional and technical actors in the industry. I had attended a summer school before auditioning and loved the family atmosphere along with the high calibre of teachers.

My favourite memory

My strongest and fondest memories are of full school internal showings of work. I loved coming together with all the teachers and students to share what we’d been doing during the term. It was very supportive and inspiring to see the talent and individuality in the School.

My course

There was a huge amount of contact time on the course. It was extremely hard work which prepared me for my professional career. I learnt discipline, professionalism and most importantly the courage of my convictions and talent. It is essential to keep encouraging the importance of unique skills and energy. I was always taught to lean into what made me special, rather than comparing myself to others.

Life after Surrey

I am an actor in the mediums of stage and screen. A definite highlight was creating the role of 'Raven' in Jim Steinman’s Bat Out of Hell in London, Toronto and New York. I adore working on new pieces. Every job is a highlight as I’m always meeting new people and learning from them.

Advice for students

My advice is to always be kind. Entertainment projects are the work of hundreds of people in lots of different departments. Know the importance of what you do, perform to the best of your ability and appreciate and respect the work of others.

Equal opportunities

I think it is incredibly important for GSA to continue its effort to promote equal opportunities and to ensure that the course and its graduates reflect the diversity, energy and brilliance of the society we live in. I am proud of their renewed and continuing efforts to celebrate individuality and representation for all.
