We've had many guest speakers from the industry come in to give us an insight into their daily routines and real examples of some of the cases they've dealt with which is very engaging. I find this to be a great way to consolidate my understanding by applying theoretical concepts to real life examples.
Entry year
2023What do you like about your course and why?
I enjoy my course as it involves a series of practical elements where we take on various roles in the criminal justice system such as crime scene investigator (CSI), forensic examiner or senior investigating officer (SIO). From this, you get hands on experience of what it'd actually be like if you wanted to pursue a certain role.

What do you enjoy most about Surrey?
I definitely enjoy the social aspect of university the most. Surrey has so many different societies that you can try and join which is a great way to meet people and make friends.
A massive shout out to the Pole Fitness society where I found so many great friends! I fully recommend prospective students to get out of their comfort zone and join a society/club.
What do you want to do when you graduate?
When I graduate, I hope to have a career in intelligence or in the police force. I believe that my course has allowed me to understand what is expected and needed to be successful in this sector.
What's your advice to new students?
My advice would be to have a genuine interest in criminology. Although the course has elements of forensic investigation, its important to keep in mind that this is not the main subject. It is very useful to have a wider knowledge of current/major crime events that you can draw upon later. Ultimately, you should choose a degree that aligns with what career path you are wanting to go down.
