"Something unique that Surrey offered was the model clinical wards and multidisciplinary team (MDT) aspect of the Kate Granger Building, alongside the new anatomy facilities."
Why did you choose to study your course at Surrey?
I chose to study at Surrey because of the facilities and the location. Compared to the other universities I applied to, Surrey had the best to offer in terms of healthcare facilities. Something unique that Surrey offered was the model clinical wards and multidisciplinary team (MDT) aspect of the Kate Granger Building, alongside the new anatomy facilities. I also saw they have a huge sports park which drew me in as well! I also loved the location of Surrey, being outside of London but so easily connected to the city and other areas of the country.
What are the best things about Surrey and your course?
I would say that the best thing about Surrey is the area being green and having a nice old English town feel to it, that is not overly busy like London. In terms of the course, the best thing is the investment the lecturers put in to teaching. They're passionate and give a lot of knowledge about practising as a doctor.
What are the best things about life here as a postgraduate student?
I think the more relaxed atmosphere Guildford has compared to other larger cities as well as the Library which I use on the weekends for silent study spaces. I haven't been involved in a society, but there is good support from the University for postgraduates.
What are your career plans?
I find neurology very interesting and would love to start exploring that route, but that might change after seeing different specialties on placement! I would also love to move to Australia at some point in the future to work as a doctor.
What advice do you have for students thinking of doing this course?
To come for an Open Day or visit the University if you think it's for you.
