My course allowed me to apply practical knowledge alongside learning the core foundations of Computer Science. Beyond the strong networking opportunities, my undergraduate degree at Surrey equipped me with the skills and confidence needed to transition efficiently into a professional work environment.
What do you enjoy most about Surrey?
The aspect I enjoy most about studying at Surrey is the strong sense of community. The Students’ Union offers a wide range of social events, along with countless societies that make it easy to meet people who share similar interests.
Describe your placement experience
During my placement year, I worked as a Software Engineer at Xceptor, a locally based fintech company that has offices around the world.
I was part of a specialised team, collaborating closely with others to work towards shared objectives. My role involved programming, problem-solving, attending meetings and company events, and continuously learning ew skills throughout the year.
What do you want to do when you graduate?
During my undergraduate studies, I developed a particular interest in the security aspects of technology, which motivated me to continue my education in this field. As a result, if everything goes right, I will be starting an MSc in Information Security at University College London this September! Following this, I plan to pursue a career in the Security department of a technology company, preferably within the fintech sector.
What advice do you have for students thinking of studying your course?
Don’t be afraid to push yourself and step outside your comfort zone: university is a unique opportunity to grow, and it can be harder and slower to do so once you enter the workplace.
