Graduation year
2022What were the best things about your course?
The English Literature with Creative Writing programme at Surrey offered an incredible balance between analytical thinking and creative expression. I particularly valued how the course encouraged us to examine texts from multiple perspectives whilst developing our own unique voice as writers.
Intimate seminar groups fostered meaningful discussions and peer feedback sessions sharpened both my critical thinking and collaborative skills. The diverse range of modules allowed me to explore different genres and writing styles, which has proven invaluable in my professional life where adaptability and creative problem-solving are essential.
What do you do now? How did your degree from Surrey help you achieve this?
I currently work as a technical delivery manager at the world's largest business-to-business events company, Informa, where I have the exciting opportunity to travel globally to our various events and collaborate with development teams in India.
My degree was instrumental in developing the core skills that make me effective in this role.
The creative writing component taught me to think outside the box when solving complex technical challenges, whilst the literature studies honed my analytical abilities and attention to detail - crucial when managing multiple project deliverables. The course also strengthened my communication skills, enabling me to bridge the gap between technical teams and stakeholders effectively.
Most importantly, studying literature cultivated my empathy and understanding of different perspectives, which helps me focus on customer needs and continuously improve user experiences across our global events portfolio.
