This course really helped me to understand how creative I am as a person. My job is very creative now and I would not have recognised maybe how important that is to me without studying this degree.
Course
English Literature BA (Hons)Graduation year
2023What were the best things about your course?
I loved most things about my course. But I think above all, we felt like a little family by the time I graduated. I felt like everyone was really supportive and we all helped each other when we needed to.
What do you do now? How did your degree from Surrey help you achieve this?
I work in social media marketing now. I think in general marketing is a great career path after studying English literature. That's where I developed a super analytical mindset and learnt to write at a high standard and see things from multiple perspectives. There were also several modules that touched on aspects I felt were really relevant to marketing and who your audience is. But I think the most important thing for me was that this course really helped me to understand how creative I am as a person. My job is very creative now and I would not have recognised maybe how important that is to me without studying this degree.
What’s your advice to current students?
I know it sounds so clichéd, but everything will fall into place and there is NO rush. We have become a really fast-paced society. We don't take things in our stride anymore. We're always in a rush for the next thing without enjoying where we currently are. But don't worry about the future, and just enjoy your time at uni!! Worry about 'after uni' when you get there. And believe that anything you want to do, you really can.
