What do you like about your course and why?

Studying Biochemistry at Surrey provides not only a wealth of knowledge but helps you develop a large and transferrable skill set. From the beginning of first year, you can choose optional modules, so you get the opportunity to explore your interests in the field. This shapes you as a well-rounded scientist and, for anyone truly passionate about the world of science and research, it’s a great opportunity to explore different topics.

I saw the real impact of doing this degree in my third year: one of the modules 'Human Genetics in the 21st Century' was assessed through conducting and creating an information fair for an assigned disease, which for my group was Klinefelter's Syndrome. My role in the project was public engagement lead, which involved liaising with organisations and representing bodies for the disease. It gave me valuable insight into the applicability of science into the real world. I then got to intern with Klinefelter's Syndrome Association over the summer, which further developed my skills and gave me valuable experience in science communications.
