The students are the very energy that brings it altogether. It's a melting pot of different cultures - from the students to the lecturers - which makes the experience amazing.
Entry year
2025Why did you choose to study your course at Surrey?
I chose to study at the University of Surrey because of the reviews and the rank of the school on not only within the UK market but also the global market.
What are the best things about Surrey and your course?
Some of the best things of Surrey and the course are the people. The professors were knowledgeable in their respective areas, friendly, helpful and plainly the best. The auxiliary staff are quite helpful and accommodating.
The students are the very energy that brings it altogether. It's a melting pot of different cultures - from the students to the lecturers - which makes the experience amazing.
What are the best things about life here as a postgraduate student?
Too many to list, but as a postgraduate student, especially an older than the average postgraduate student, being accepted by all peers. The experiences that everyone brings and the learning not only within the classroom but outside.
Whilst we were all focused on the programme, we still tried to make time to enjoy and experience what Guildford had to offer. There were so many other activities to be a part of as a postgraduate student to help further yourself. In my cohort we received weekly emails about all the activities you could be part of.
What are your career plans?
Ideally to be working within the tourism sector. But sometimes plans have a way of changing course dependent on the situation. My intentions are to become a professor/lecturer to impact knowledge of future tourism aficionados.
What advice do you have for students thinking of doing this course?
My advice is don't limit yourself to the classroom. Go out create experiences, the best way to learn about tourism and hospitality is to immerse yourself into the real world of it. You are learning how to manage it, but you also need to understand tourism and hospitality from the perspective of the person participating and enjoying it.
