A foundation year will help you transition to studying away from home while strengthening your knowledge and preparing you for your first year.

The best thing about my course is the opportunity to apply and transfer the theoretical background of what we learn in our lectures to the laboratory every week. The skills we learn in the laboratory alone are incredibly useful as we learn not only skills for chemistry, but also professional development skills like teamwork, data analysis and more.

My placement gave me an insight into the police work conducted behind a crime or death. Analysing post-mortem samples and seeing the effects of certain drugs on people really fascinated me and gave me the opportunity to explore the toxicology world in depth.

The lecturers go above and beyond for students. There is an open office policy, which enables students to contact teaching staff at any time. This availability and readiness to support students is impressive.

Surrey has great connections with placement providers all over the world, and I’m really excited to be spending next year in Italy for my Professional Training placement.
