Women have played a pivotal role in the history of Jazz, yet only 5% of Jazz instrumentalists in the UK are women. The ‘Celebrating Women in Jazz’ event is an opportunity to celebrate and promote the engagement of women in jazz music, with an opportunity to watch performances of jazz compositions written by women performed by students and professional musicians.
The event is split into a number of sections throughout the day running from 12:30 pm – 9:30 pm including a Student Lunchtime Recital, a Q&A Panel with Jazz Professionals, a Workshop-Masterclass with two female Jazz musicians and an evening concert with a performance from The Shirley Smart Jazz Trio.
