The pressures on the higher education sector are manifold: GenAI is fundamentally reshaping the ways in which students and staff engage with their academic, professional and social lives. Changes to the regulatory landscape in which we operate and an increased focus on graduate outcomes require new ways of thinking about the purpose of higher education. Increasingly, too, we need to take greater care of our students and staff and their mental health and wellbeing.
This year’s Surrey Excellence in Teaching Symposium (ExciTeS) offers an opportunity for colleagues from Surrey and beyond to share pedagogical practices, research outcomes and emergent ideas on aspects of learning, teaching and assessment and wider higher educational practices in this changing educational environment.
The ExciTeS Symposium will take place on 14 April 2026 with an invited keynote and parallel sessions showcasing excellence in learning, teaching and assessment from across the University (and beyond). We will also be taking the opportunity to celebrate the winners of Surrey’s Teachers of the Year awards and showcasing the achievements of our new Fellows of all levels. A poster exhibition and stalls on a range of issues relevant to higher education will be available during breaktimes and lunch.
