55 years of Music and Media at Surrey!
Last week we welcomed over 150 alumni, current students and staff for an anniversary event celebrating an incredible 55 years of Music and Media at the University of Surrey.
Our current Head of Discipline, Chris Wiley, welcomed graduates from as early as 1974, standing shoulder to shoulder with first years from 2024-25. Tonmeister alumni heard an inspirational speech from Emeritus Professor Dave Fisher and celebrated the distinguished long service of long standing Tonmeister academics Tim Brookes and Rupert Flindt, whilst our Music alumni enjoyed an informal concert in PATS Studio 1 featuring MMus students on guitar, trombone, electronics and voice.

Reminiscing in Hari’s Bar and with tours of Performing Arts and Technology Studios (PATS), our guests networked, shared career stories and memories of Surrey, before being treated to the highlight of the evening – the first, but hopefully not the last – performance by our staff band, the SKA-MEISTERS, comprising Music and Media academics, technicians and alumni.
The whole evening was filmed by our Film Production and Broadcast Engineering students, ahead of their involvement in the exciting On Air initiative next month.
