University of Surrey and University of Wollongong Joint/Dual PhD Scholarship

The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (FHMS) at the University of Surrey (UoS) is thrilled to announce a joint/dual PhD studentship in partnership with the University of Wollongong (UoW), Australia, open for applications for a January 2025 start for outstanding PhD candidates. 

Overview

The purpose of the scheme is to foster international collaboration by enabling PhD students to spend time at Surrey and Wollongong, with supervisors from both institutions. Successful applicants will start the dual PhD programme at UoW in early 2025, moving to UoS for a 12-month period at a specified point in their programme. Up to four projects will be supported.

  • Start date: January / February 2025 
  • Duration: 42 months (3.5 years) 
  • Application deadline for Academic (UoS with UoW) staff: 8th April 2024
  • Application deadline for prospect PhD students: To be confirmed
  • Funding source: The University of Wollongong and the University of Surrey

Eligibility criteria

The ideal candidate has research skills and understanding aligning with the research proposed by the supervisory team. 

How to apply

An application must be made to both the University of Wollongong and the University of Surrey. Applicants must meet the entry requirements of both Universities. 

Information for investigators

Funding Package

  • Annual tuition fee waivers
  • Stipend at the Research Training Program rate (approximately $34,000 p.a.) for a duration of 3.5 years
  • Two and a half years residency at the University of Wollongong
  • One-year residency at the University of Surrey
  • Research training support grant to be used for travel and consumable expenses
  • The student will be conferred a double PhD by the University of Wollongong and the University of Surrey.
