My interest in the finance industry has grown because of my course, as it helps me connect economic theory to real-world financial decisions and market behaviour.

Entry year

2023

What do you like about your course and why?

I like how there are a multitude of analytical and practical elements in my course. Once you understand the basic concepts, you begin to realize how much of the world is influenced by the simple ideology of demand and supply. My interest in the finance industry has also grown because of my course, as it helps me connect economic theory to real-world financial decisions and market behaviour.

What do you enjoy most about Surrey?

What I enjoy most about Surrey is the vibrant campus life and the supportive community. There are so many opportunities to get involved through clubs and societies, which make it easy to meet people with similar interests.

Founding the Women in Finance Society has been especially rewarding. I also love the events the Students’ Union organizes - like club nights, trips, and One World Week - that bring everyone together. With hundreds of societies to choose from, my favourites are the Women in Finance Society, Salsa and Bachata Society, and the F1 Society. Being on campus makes even the bleakest winter days feel fun and lively.

What do you want to do when you graduate?

When I graduate, I want to pursue a career in finance, specifically in investment banking or wealth management. I’m particularly interested in roles that combine analytical thinking with client interaction, where I can help individuals or institutions make informed financial decisions and develop effective investment strategies.

What's your advice to new students?

I’d advise students to stay curious and open-minded. Economics can seem theory-heavy at first, but once you start applying the concepts to real-world events, it becomes much more engaging.

Podcasts by news channels or banks make it easier to keep up with current events, so I’d definitely suggest listening to those. Keeping up with current affairs helps connect what you learn in lectures to what’s happening globally. Also, make the most of data and analytical modules - they’re incredibly useful for careers in finance, consulting, and beyond.
