Student profile

Isiah D.

The lecturers here know their respective fields phenomenally well and are as passionate as me when I question the ideas of their fields which is really encouraging when I don't quite understand something.

What do you like about your course and why?

I enjoy studying physics because it allows me to understand the intricacies of the universe while also leaving room for me to develop my own theories and understandings of how it works and behaves. I am particularly interested in astrophysics and quantum mechanics as they deal with the extremes of this reality from the wave properties of the electron to the supermassive black holes at the centre of galaxies. It is the extremes of physics where things don't make complete sense that intrigues me.

What do you enjoy most about Surrey?

I enjoy the simplicity of it all.

Even though it is a university campus with many buildings and faculties, it doesn't feel overwhelming and is very easy to navigate.

The lecturers here know their respective fields phenomenally well and are as passionate as me when I question the ideas of their fields which is really encouraging when I don't quite understand something.

What do you want to do when you graduate?

I would like to do a PhD in either the field of astrophysics on the nature of black holes and do research as an astrophysicist at NASA.

Your advice to new students

Even if you are only passionate about one field in physics, you can still learn more about the dimension you live in. If you want sought-after answers to your most intriguing questions, study the language that allows you to understand the complexities of the universe, so you can pursue these inquisitions fully.
