Student stories

The lecturers here know their respective fields phenomenally well and are as passionate as me when I question the ideas of their fields which is really encouraging when I don't quite understand something.

As well as my work in Germany at GSI, I've had the opportunity to work on experiments all over the world, including at RIKEN in Japan, CERN in Switzerland, and TRIUMF in Canada.

The range of societies...the constant extracurricular events, both academic and social, means there is always something to do, somewhere to go, and people you can meet with common interests.

I love how much there is to get involved with at Surrey and how nice the atmosphere is on campus. This year, I am part of the Formula Student team, the University Choir, and the Physics society.

Surrey makes university easy in terms of choosing what to do or what path you want to go down. I love that. Also, the Physics lecturers at Surrey ensure that you are following the course and they actively engage in your learning.

The lab sessions are incredible. The experiments we do are so unique and intense. With one being a nuclear decontamination and cleaning! Something very few people in physics will have the opportunity to do.

In the second semester, we visited Queen Alexander Hospital in Portsmouth and Royal Surrey County Hospital which helped me decide what to do for my career.

There are a lot of external speakers on the course, including from the Royal Surrey Hospital and the National Physical Laboratory. They really help to widen your understanding of medical physics applications.

My lecturers have all been engaging and encouraging. They welcome questions and are happy to have one-to-one discussions.
