Having our very own floor of the library building for the School, as well as extensive material in the library itself and a dedicated study room, make the facilities at Surrey unique.

The Tonmeister degree offers the perfect combination of music and engineering, technical and creative knowledge. The course is very well structured, academic, and has a hands-on approach to learn the theory and practical skills needed to work in any field in the Music industry.

I’ve been extremely fortunate to have collaborated extensively with a range of academics at both the University and across the United Kingdom.

There is a wide range of genres and module choice within the course – I can learn classical violin performance while also studying popular music analysis and musicology. There are huge opportunities to collaborate with other students from different year groups and courses, especially in the Music Project module.

As soon as I decided to apply and began to talk with possible supervisors, I understood that faculty members and PhD students thrive in such a stimulating environment.

The MRes students are fully absorbed into the School of Economics and provided with all resources needed to prepare adequately for a successful PhD programme.

My placement year really helped me to grow as an engineer and become more confident in my ability to solve engineering problems in industry. I’ve also gained invaluable teamworking experience and greatly improved my communication and time management skills.

My time at Surrey has improved my chances of employability immensely. The beauty about Surrey is that they prioritise both academic and professional development, as most courses offer some sort of placement year, and really set you up for professional life once you graduate.
