Economics, Finance and Data Analytics Foundation Year

Our one-year, full-time Economics, Finance and Data Analytics Foundation Year aims to provide students with the essential skills and knowledge to progress onto a degree in one of our programmes in Economics.

What you will study

The foundation year in economics, finance and data analytics is designed to develop and enhance students’ qualitative and quantitative skills, ensuring a smooth transition to our undergraduate programmes while strengthening employability prospects.

The programme provides a strong grounding in core economic concepts and analytical frameworks. Students learn to analyse economic issues at both micro and macro levels, evaluate economic theories and policies in a global context, and interpret economic data using mathematical and analytical methods. The programme also develops key transferable and career skills, including critical thinking, research, problem-solving, teamwork, and clear communication, supported by project-based learning that builds academic confidence and independence.

Day-to-day learning 

The programme is designed to help students build core knowledge and essential skills through an interactive, engaging, and practical learning experience. Teaching is delivered through a mix of lectures, tutorials, workshops, computer-lab sessions, project work, and independent study.

Innovative and supportive teaching methods, including interactive learning and guided observation, promote student engagement and are supported by a range of online learning resources that complement and extend the taught material.

Assessment

Assessments are designed to support the application of economic knowledge to real-world challenges while developing critical thinking, communication, and practical skills. Through tutorials, peer review, class discussions, data exploration, case-study work, and engagement with economics and financial press outlets, students receive ongoing feedback to help refine their work, build confidence, and strengthen their academic skills.
