We're fascinated with the way words and languages work, how they travel across national boundaries and between cultures, and the relationship they have with our thoughts. 

We are ranked:

• 1st in the UK for Iberian studies and 4th in the UK for media studies, for overall student satisfaction* in the National Student Survey 2026.
• 4th in the UK for languages and linguistics in the Guardian University Guide 2026
• 7nd in the UK for French by the Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026

90% of our undergraduate and 100% of our postgraduate taught and research Literature and Languages graduates are in employment or further study (Graduate Outcomes 2025, HESA).
