Supervised Practice Level B (Cases 1-4)

Supervised Practice Level B is designed to meet the requirements for independent IPT Practitioner status with IPT-UK and IAPT. This involves demonstrating competency in delivering IPT by completing 4 IPT cases under supervision. The course consists of a minimum of 35 supervision of supervision sessions usually provided weekly, either 1:1 or in a group, by an IPT-UK approved supervisor. The Level B training is designed to be flexible so that geographical and time constraints can, wherever possible, be taken into account. Start times for commencing supervised practice can be individually negotiated; on-line supervision e.g. Skype or telephone supervision can be arranged.

Level B Assessment

You will need to submit to your supervisor and be passed on a minimum of 3 audio tapes for each client (one from each of the assessment, middle and ending phases of treatment). You will also need to write a reflective case report for each of your 4 cases. You are required to successfully complete cases in two of the four focal areas of IPT (Role Disputes, Role Transition, Complex Grief, Sensitivities). The first case must be a client presenting with moderate to severe depression. On successful completion of Level B you will be able to register with the IPT-UK as an IPT Practitioner.

  • Length: Completion takes approximately 12 months.
  • Location: Supervision times and venues are negotiable.  Supervision can be arranged at the University of Surrey or on Sussex Partnership Trust premises and also via Skype or telephone.
  • Date: Dates are by negotiation throughout the year
  • Fee: £3,300

Applicants must have successfully completed an IPT-UK accredited Level A course within the past two years. We recommend that if more than 9 months has elapsed since level A training, participants attend our Refresher Course.
