BSc Medical Sciences (Gateway to Graduate Entry Medicine)

Surrey’s new 2 year accelerated degree programme.

2 year accelerated degree

This intensive two-year degree delivers the full breadth of a traditional three-year science degree through year-round study across 45 weeks (three semesters) each year. You will benefit from enhanced contact time, immersive teaching, and structured academic and pastoral support throughout, building the knowledge, scientific skills, and confidence needed to progress directly into our four-year medical degree programme (BMBS). Successful completion of BSc (Hons) Medical Sciences followed by the BMBS, will equip you to graduate as a doctor in six years, with a strong scientific foundation, well prepared for future medical training and practice in the NHS.

Immunology, Pathology and Medicine
Pharmacology and Therapeutics
Clinical and Professional Skills
Research Methods and Project Work.

Developed and delivered by the School of Biosciences in conjunction with the Medical School

You will study alongside students from our established Biomedical Science programme, with bespoke modules focused on clinical and professional skills delivered in each of the third semesters to prepare you for the next stage of your journey.

Successful completion of the degree with an Upper Second (2:1) or above will enable automatic progression to Surrey's four-year Graduate Entry Medicine programme, creating a clear and accessible pathway from school to graduation as a doctor and onward foundation training.

With a strong focus on broadening access to the medical profession and developing the future NHS workforce, this programme offers a new and exciting opportunity for those with the aptitude and determination to become doctors. Full admissions and progression criteria for the programme are currently being finalised and will be published in due course for entry to the first cohort in September 2027.
