Biosciences

The biosciences help us to understand fundamental life processes, from the behaviour of single cells to entire ecosystems. There’s always something new to discover in this broad area of science. As a biosciences student, you’ll investigate life in all its forms and gain skills that could transform and improve lives.

By joining us at Surrey you will:

  • Have access to our £12.5m Innovation for Health Learning Laboratory, so you can gain practical experience valued by a wide range of employers.
  • Learn from lecturers who are active researchers in antimicrobial resistance, biotechnology, clinical bacteriology, systems biology, virology and much more.
  • Study among highly satisfied students, as we are ranked 1st for biosciences, 2nd for animal science, 4th in veterinary sciences and 5th for nutrition and dietetics and for microbiology and cell science, for overall student satisfaction* in the National Student Survey 2026.
  • Have great graduate prospects - 94% of our undergraduate and 90% of our postgraduate taught and research School of Biosciences graduates are in employment or further study (Graduate Outcomes 2026, HESA).
