"The Health Psychology masters at Surrey is fantastic. The module content is diverse and engaging and you will always be well supported. The lecturers are passionate about sharing their knowledge and expertise and are always willing to spend time to help you."

Why did you choose to study your course at Surrey?

I completed my undergraduate Psychology degree at Surrey and I loved the University. I spent two years working in healthcare after I graduated and discovered I loved learning about physical health. Combined with my love for psychology, health psychology felt like the perfect combination. I knew I would be well supported in the psychology department if I decided to come back to Surrey and spending time exploring the module content made me certain this was the ideal place to study for my masters.

What are the best things about Surrey and your course?

The best thing about Surrey is the people. There is a consistently friendly and welcoming atmosphere wherever you go and people always have your best intentions at heart.

My favourite thing about my course is the diversity in content and assignments. We have had a broad range of assessments that have required a diverse array of skills. This has meant I've always stayed interested in the work I was doing and I have never found myself struggling for motivation. I was worried the assignments would just be essay after essay but they were far from that; they were engaging and thought provoking. I have learnt so many transferable skills!

We have also had multiple guest lecturers who have covered a range of interesting topics and the passion from every member of staff has always been amazing.

"I have enjoyed everything about my masters so much that I have decided to pursue a PhD in psychology and I will be starting in October (at Surrey!)."

What are the best things about life here as a postgraduate student?

There is always something to do here at Surrey. There are so many fun events that keep things entertaining and are a great distraction from studying. There are also lots of postgrad specific opportunities that provide a great insight into future career and education options. My favourite postgraduate opportunity has been taking part in the Policy School with the Civil Service Open Innovation Team. This course enthused me with a passion for policy that I would never have discovered if it wasn't for Surrey.

What are your career plans?

I have enjoyed everything about my masters so much that I have decided to pursue a PhD in psychology and I will be starting in October (at Surrey!). I have also discovered, through one of the postgraduate opportunities, that I have a strong passion for policymaking and so I hope to work in policy design in the future.

What advice do you have for students thinking of doing this course?

The Health Psychology masters at Surrey is fantastic. The module content is diverse and engaging and you will always be well supported. The lecturers are passionate about sharing their knowledge and expertise and are always willing to spend time to help you achieve your best. My biggest piece of advice will always be: ask questions! No question is ever silly, no matter how big or small, and the staff are always willing to help. My most successful pieces of work have been where I have asked question after question to ensure every element of my work was the best it could be.
