Choosing Surrey

Surrey is one of the best places to study events management in the world. The strong event culture in the UK and Surrey’s renowned School of Hospitality and Tourism Management both confirm this.

Guildford is also in a great location and close to London, which makes it easy to travel into the capital for fun or for career development. The campus is beautiful and I loved having the fully-equipped Surrey Sports Park nearby.

My course

All the practical event opportunities that the course provided us with. Our tutors were dedicated to our career development and helped us seek out every live event opportunity and field trip to practice and gain experience. In addition, the Live Event course was also a brand-new experience for me, and gave us a unique opportunity to put on an event ourselves.

Favourite Surrey memory

What impressed me was my enthusiastic classmates and tutors, as well as campus life.

The tutors provided us with practical opportunities for events, which  created a good learning atmosphere that everyone could communicate and share their experiences in.

I also took part in all kinds of societies, especially the snow sports club and the video games club. These societies not only allowed me to learn new ski skills, but also helped me meet a lot of new friends, and we even went on an unforgettable ski trip to the Alps together, which was great!

Life after Surrey

Currently, I’m an Esports Event Specialist at NetEase Games. I’mm responsible for the design of the competition system and rules of esports game events.

Advice for students aspiring to work in my profession

Be active, try and learn at every opportunity, be prepared to do thankless jobs and say yes to every opportunity.

Try to set yourself a final goal and think carefully when you start working in the event industry. The beginning of a career is always tough and full of difficulties. Persisting in a hard environment and always working towards your goal is the first step to success.

Surrey has provided me with a lot of support and opportunities in an academic environment.    It’s shaped me as a person, helped me choose my career path and enabled me to understand how to balance work and life.
