"The University staff are inspirational because they encourage and motivate you to work hard, meet deadlines and be more creative and open in discussing your ideas – their enthusiasm for your work and the course is infectious."

"Since I was young I have enjoyed writing short stories and poetry and wanted to study something that I enjoyed.

I chose Surrey because it is an exceptional establishment and I hope to use the skills I have learnt as part of the course in my Professional Training Year.

Studying English also allows you to go into many different areas after graduation. The course is helping me improve my writing skills by learning about the different technical considerations when writing a creative piece, such as place, time, rhetoric and establishing character. But not only this, it has helped me be critical of my work, enabling me to improve on current and future pieces.

The University staff are inspirational because they encourage and motivate you to work hard, meet deadlines and be more creative and open in discussing your ideas – their enthusiasm for your work and the course is infectious.

The cultural and literary activities offer a unique opportunity for students to gain an insight and understanding into what it may be like to be a professional, or have something published. Being part of a writing community makes you feel comfortable because you’re able to receive and give feedback on work without there being any hard feelings because everyone is at the same level and needs improvement."
