"This course addresses critical yet often overlooked aspects of intercultural communication and marketing, giving students a distinctive edge in today’s competitive job market."
Why did you choose to study your course at Surrey?
I chose to study at Surrey because it was the only institution that offered a programme combining my passion for intercultural communication with a strong focus on business and marketing, skills that are highly relevant in today’s globalised professional landscape. Additionally, the University's proximity to London, a major hub for international business and culture, was a significant factor in my decision.
What are the best things about Surrey and your course?
One of the best aspects of Surrey is its beautiful campus, surrounded by hills and countryside, which creates an inspiring and peaceful environment to study in. The University also provides a wide range of student activities that make it easy to connect with others.
I’ve found Surrey to be a truly international campus, and I’ve had the privilege of meeting peers from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. This diversity is also reflected in my course, where I am constantly learning – not only from the lecturers but also from my classmates.
The course content is dynamic and contemporary, with modules that address key issues and trends in today’s globalised world, particularly within intercultural communication and marketing.
What are the best things about life here as a postgraduate student?
One of the best aspects of life as a postgraduate student at Surrey is the balanced course structure, which allows me to manage academic responsibilities while still enjoying personal time. This balance has greatly enhanced my experience of studying abroad. It provides the opportunity to engage deeply with the academic content – taught by experienced professionals in a different cultural and linguistic setting – while also having the freedom to explore the UK and immerse myself in its culture beyond the classroom.
What are your career plans?
With a solid background in the localisation industry – as both a professional translator and a project manager – I do not have immediate plans to shift careers. I am passionate about the work I do and intend to apply the insights and skills gained from this course directly to my current professional path. That said, I greatly value that the programme also opens doors to adjacent fields, equipping me with the versatility to explore broader opportunities in intercultural business and marketing, should I choose to in the future.
What advice do you have for students thinking of doing this course?
Go for it! This is a truly unique programme that offers a combination of content I haven’t encountered in other courses. It stands out because it delivers highly applicable knowledge – insights and frameworks you can immediately put into practice, both professionally and personally. Unlike more generic programmes, this course addresses critical yet often overlooked aspects of intercultural communication and marketing, giving students a distinctive edge in today’s competitive job market.
