From a young age, I always loved problem-solving and technology and so I knew I wanted to go into Engineering. This followed into secondary school where I greatly enjoyed computing and physics but specifically the circuitry topics so Electronic Engineering seemed like the perfect fit.

Placement was the best way to get valuable work experience and cement my theoretical experiences at university. I feel well-equipped to join the engineering workforce post-graduation as a result of my placement.

Taking part in the placement module can offer valuable insights into your career and future prospects. It allows you to gain hands-on experience by working for a company and truly understanding what it's like.

Space, stars, and the underlying science behind them has always been fascinating to me.  I have always had a desire to tinker and build projects. Combining these two passions fitted perfectly into my degree.

Lab sessions are the highlight of the course for me. Being able to apply the skills and knowledge I’ve gained to something tangible is extremely satisfying. I spend time calculating, designing and deliberating – and it’s the most rewarding of feelings when it all works out.

The course outline was my favourite out of all the different universities I was considering. The amount of practical work was a big factor because I like the hands-on work our laboratory modules provide.

The support offered by the University of Surrey to me as a Clearing student was brilliant.

For me, the most enjoyable parts of the course are the lab experiments and projects. Whether it’s an individual or group project, the satisfaction of putting things together and building something that works – from scratch – is a unique feeling.

Being a campus university, Surrey feels like a community, which definitely helps when you are starting out as a Fresher.
