Veterinary Medicine and Science Foundation Year

You will study the Biosciences Foundation Year curriculum, alongside students from diverse backgrounds who are planning to join our undergraduate biosciences courses. 

You will have plenty of opportunities to get to know our School of Veterinary Medicine as you progress through the course. 

My future discipline

The ‘My future discipline’ component of the course is designed to align with your chosen degree. As part of this, you’ll meet staff from our vet school, join Q&A sessions about our undergraduate degree, meet some of our teaching animals in practical classes, and go on a tour of the school. Our facilities include: 

• Clinical Skills Lab, where students use models and advanced mannequins to learn and practise companion animal and cross-species skills. 
• Fledglings, our on-site mock veterinary practice, complete with kennels for our teaching dogs who are perfect pretend patients for our vet students. Wally (pictured) has helped an entire cohort of students with their handling skills, so it was only fair that he graduate too!
• Large Animal Clinical Skills Centre, where students practise their equine, production and intensive production (pig and poultry) skills. This purpose-built facility is also home to our teaching animals, including horses and cattle. 
• Veterinary Pathology Centre, where students are taught anatomy and pathology.
