Welcome to Professor Annabelle Gawer, Professor of Digital Economy at Surrey Business School

Surrey Business School is delighted to welcome Annabelle Gawer as Professor of Digital Economy.

This appointment will reinforce Surrey’s world class expertise and research excellence within the digital economy landscape.

Surrey has become a hub of activity and knowledge exchange, connecting companies and organisations of all sizes with its cutting edge research. It’s an exciting time for Surrey, I look forward to working with a great team bringing new insights and thought leadership to the digital economy space.”

Professor Gawer will become co-director of the Surrey Centre for the Digital Economy (CoDE) to accelerate current research efforts and enhance the international reputation of the activities taking place there. Fellow co-directors of CoDE, Professor Roger Maull and Professor Alan Brown, commented:

“Annabelle’s appointment is a great step forward for Surrey Business School and an exciting opportunity to further develop our leading research in this field. 2015 has been a fantastic year for CoDE, attracting a number of major research grants and developing strong academic and industry partnership links. In joining this team, Annabelle will provide a significant push to the centre’s work and help focus our efforts toward great business and academic impact.”

Joining from Imperial College Business School, Professor Gawer’s pioneering work and world-class research in digital platforms will add significantly to Surrey Business School’s agenda. She is the author of two seminal books on platforms and currently co-authoring a third with Harvard Professor David Joffie and MIT’s Michael Cusumano; she has also been published in world-class academic journals and featured in the Economist and Wall Street Journal. Annabelle’s research on digital platforms has had a significant impact within academia and industry, from multi-national corporations to digital start-ups. Championing an inter-disciplinary approach, Annabelle’s academic background in industrial engineering and organization theory is a powerful combination which aligns closely with Surrey Business School’s culture of collaboration and knowledge exchange.
