Managing in the Digital Economy Summer School

Build your own app-based digital business

Monday 24 June – Friday 5 July 2019


Join us for a stimulating experience packed with learning activities including skill development workshops led by industry experts, seminars by Surrey Business School’s academics, company visits and social events. This summer school is open to undergraduates and recent graduates across all disciplines.

Enjoy our state-of-the-art facilities, including on-campus accommodation, Surrey Sports Park and learning facilities.

Content and learning objectives

This programme provides participants with an in-depth understanding of the concept of ‘digital innovation’ and its relevance to business competitiveness. You will develop the capability to identify the link between digital innovation, entrepreneurship, new business models, crowdfunding, marketing and communication, open data sources for scaling, and big data and ethics.

App and web design

We’ve teamed up with a leading provider in digital coding to teach you the fundamentals of coding and digital design, wireframing and prototyping. You will build an animated website using HTML and CSS as well as a mobile app using Swift or Java.

Group project

An applied group project enables participants to develop practical oriented skills, by creating an application-based business. You will advance your entrepreneurial and market research skills by conducting an in-depth industry analysis, marketing, strategy, cash flow forecasting, operations and team plans.

On completion of the course you would have gained:
