Lunchtime Concert Featuring John Pfumojena (mbira)
We are delighted to welcome distinguished Zimbabwean composer and performer John Pfumojena to Surrey with a wonderful concert of Zimbabwean music and song for our opening lunchtime concert of the year. Performing on his nyunganyunda, a unique re-designed traditional mbira, John’s musical and research interests focus on the intersections of music, theatre and cultural diversity, and his work is greeted with critical acclaim around the world. This promises to be a wonderful opportunity to see him perform.

John Pfumojena performs on his newly innovated Pfumojena Extended Nyunganyunga - Mbira instrument from Zimbabwe, Southern Africa. This concert showcases the richness and complexity of a culture, and musical instrument family that's over 3,000 years old. John is joined by collaborator, Tawanda Mapanda.
