Course

Nursing Studies (Registered Nurse Mental Health Nursing) BSc (Hons)

Why I chose Surrey

I was inspired to go to university to study mental health nursing after volunteering for Mind, one of the UK’s leading mental health charities.

When I visited Surrey, I was very impressed with what I saw. I felt safe when I walked around the campus, the lake was beautiful and I was impressed with Surrey Sports Park and the central location.

My clinical placements

I’ve been on many different clinical placements as part of my degree, including working in the Community Mental Health Recovery Service in Guildford and at Pelham Woods, a locked rehabilitation service in Dorking that caters for patients who have been diagnosed with personality disorders.

If you’re not too sure what area of nursing you want to specialise in, placements are a great opportunity for you to find out. Though you might start a placement feeling nervous, by the end you feel like a useful part of the team. The possibilities to learn and develop your skills are endless, and the best memories I have from my placements are those that involve the people I've cared for.
