The Emily Oliver Adult Nursing Scholarship 2023 entry

Supporting students from particular backgrounds who want to study adult nursing at the University of Surrey and require financial assistance. This scholarship is worth £16,250 each year of study up to a total of £48,750.

The Emily Oliver Adult Nursing Scholarship provides a fee waiver for each year of study and £7,000 towards accommodation costs (by way of a waiver if in University accommodation) for a maximum of three years and aims to encourage and support undergraduate students on the Nursing Studies (Registered Nurse Adult Nursing) BSc (Hons) course at the University of Surrey.

Students can receive the Emily Oliver Adult Nursing Scholarship in addition to a University Merit Scholarship as well as any other bursary, prize and award for which they are eligible, if successful.

Eligibility criteria

To be considered for the Emily Oliver Adult Nursing Scholarship for Student Nurses applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Applying to study on the Nursing Studies (Registered Nurse Adult Nursing) BSc (Hons) programme at the University of Surrey
  • Require financial assistance to be able to pursue a career in nursing
  • Are from particular backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented at universities and colleges. This may include students who are:
    • the first in their family to go to university or college
    • are currently or have been in care
    • from particular ethnic groups, such as black, Asian, and minority ethnic (BAME)
    • from low socio-economic groups (i.e. families with low income)
    • in a school or live in an area where low numbers of students go to university or college
    • mature students who fall into one of the above categories
  • Whilst not part of the criteria preference maybe given to those applicants who are from the local (Surrey) area.

How to apply

To apply for the Emily Oliver Adult Nursing Scholarship please download an application form. Complete the form and then email it to the Bursaries and Scholarships Team.

Successful applicants will be notified by the end of June of the year they are applying for, with the first scholarship payment being received in their first semester (October) subject to them being accepted onto the course, registering and starting the course.
