Dual phd studentship: University of Surrey School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Hotel and Tourism Management
The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) at the University of Surrey, located in Guildford, UK, is delighted to announce the second round of the dual PhD studentship competition in partnership with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to outstanding PhD candidates who will be starting their doctorate in October 2021.

Successful candidates will have a fee waiver for the 3 years of their PhD and a stipend equivalent to the amount allocated for VC studentship awardees at Surrey.

We invite applications for the dual PhD programme jointly offered by the SHTM Surrey and the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. This is a Joint PhD Programme leading to dual awards between the two global leading institutions in hospitality and tourism. New PhD students will be jointly admitted to the programme on a full-time basis and will be registered with both institutions from the commencement of their studies. They will be jointly supervised by expert scholars of both institutions and will spend not less than 18 months in each institution. Each student will be required to complete only one single piece of research to fulfil the award requirements of the two institutions.
The ideal candidate must:
- hold a Masters degree at a minimum of a distinction level in hospitality, tourism, transport and/or events from an approved university
- have a IELTS test score (7.0+ overall and at least 6.5 in each category) if English is not your first language;
- have a topic that aligns with one or more of the School’s strategic research Centres;
- have a minimum of two-years industry-related experience, preferably at managerial/executive levels.

Interested applicants for the dual PhD studentships will need to make an application to both the University of Surrey and Hong Kong PolyU and meet the entry requirements of both institutions. When making an application to Surrey, applicants will need to clearly state in the application form that they are applying for this dual degree programme. When making an application to Hong Kong PolyU, applicants should provide complete and accurate information on their proposed supervisors at the University of Surrey and at The Hong Kong PolyU and in the “Programme Choice” section of their online applications. For the applications to both institutions please attach the RDC1A form.
