Spotlight on SurreyConnects

We know that kickstarting your career can be a daunting prospect, so we have introduced SurreyConnects – a place for our students to connect with Surrey alumni and find a career mentor.

SurreyConnects is the University of Surrey’s online networking and mentoring platforms that links students and graduates. You can browse a range of alumni mentors and find one most suitable for your career ambitions. You can also stay up to date with the latest Surrey news, upcoming events and search for job vacancies.

Since launching in March 2021, our platform has already grown to nearly 2,500 users who are either current students or Surrey alumni. This means everyone you reach out to has a shared understanding of what it’s like to be entering the world of work, so they’re willing to impart their wisdom, offer guidance or support you through Three Cups of Coffee, our short-term virtual mentoring scheme.

SurreyConnects is a great way to make connections and start to grow your network, find out more about other people’s jobs and share your skills, all of which will provide insight into different career paths and increase your employability.

The platform offers:

  • Business directory
  • Alumni and students willing to help one another
  • Helpful resources to get started as a mentor
  • Integrated video calling and messaging making networking simple
  • Job vacancies and the ability to advertise jobs
  • News, events and photo galleries
  • Profile customisation – decide how much time you can spare and what activities you’d like to get involved with.

Many of our students are also using SurreyConnects to support their degrees by using the platform to reach out to relevant industry contacts as part of their assignments. Recently, a postgraduate student used SurreyConnects to interview a variety of alumni for his MBA research.

SurreyConnects is just one of the ways we support our students and graduates with their employability. We were awarded 'University of the Year for Graduate Employment' in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide for 2022 in recognition of our consistently high performance in the employability of our graduates.
