
Dr Baris Celik
Biography
Baris joined the Department of Politics in the academic year of 2021-22. His research interests are national and international policy coordination in crisis management, security and defence policies in Europe, foreign policy analysis, diplomacy and international negotiation, and international politics of climate change. His teaching areas include international security and defence, European Union politics, theories of international relations, research methods in political science, and negotiation.
In his PhD research, which he completed at the University of Kent, Baris examined the cooperation between the European Union (EU), North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), and their members in the security and defence domain. His research on these issues are published in European Security and Global Affairs.
Previously, Baris was involved in foreign policy planning and served in Turkey and China as a diplomat. He obtained his MA degree in European Governance and Politics from the University of Sheffield, where he was awarded the EU’s Jean Monnet Scholarship.
Baris is also the Events Officer at the Graduate Forum Committee of the University Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES), a member of the British International Studies Association (BISA), and a European Climate Pact Ambassador.
