What do you like about your course and why?

Studying Computer Science appeals to me because it sits at the intersection of logic, creativity, and real-world impact. It offers a discipline that challenges me intellectually while giving me practical tools to build and innovate.

As a Computer Science student at the University of Surrey, I have become increasingly aware that Computer Science is not only about learning to program machines, but about understanding how systems, algorithms, networks, and data shape modern life.

The more I progress through the degree, the more I identify reasons why it motivates me, stretches me, and aligns with my long-term goals.

Your advice to new students

Invest time and energy in understanding all the important concepts taught in your modules, and don't hesitate to ask questions when you don't understand. Reach out to lecturers and even students that have a keen understanding of the concepts taught in your models and learn from them. Always keep God by your side, coupled with a strong sense of direction pertaining to your course, and you will surely succeed beyond measure. Try to also participate in events, educational contents and job contents outside of your curriculum, as this will give you a higher chance of gaining employment and succeeding beyond the scope of the course curriculum. When stressed, try to have fun by playing sports, going to clubs, going to the movies and just try to relax and ease out when you’re stressed. It will help you to reset, and tackle your course head-on. Finally, know why you’re here and never forget your identity. Hope you have a good time!
