What do you like about your course and why?

Environment and Sustainability are very interdisciplinary topics shown through the different subject backgrounds of people on this course. I chose this course because the modules cover a wide range of topics like remote sensing, inequality and economics, all of which are crucial to tackling the climate crisis.

"By having a smaller cohort, my course mates and I were able to become close, making it a fun and enjoyable experience to work together. It also provided a comfortable environment for open discussions making lectures more engaging. "

Our lecturers are very friendly and approachable, and learning about their work is truly inspiring. The different styles of assignment provides the opportunity to learn more about each module and develops the skills to work on different kinds of writing such as reports and blog posts.

What do you enjoy most about Surrey?

The university offers many clubs and societies which is a good way to meet new people and make friends with common interests. The sports facilities are great, I particularly enjoy the gym and have found it to be an excellent place to unwind and keep fit. Everything is in close proximity: supermarket, sports park, town and train station.

What do you want to do when you graduate?

On one hand I am interested in working for corporations looking at environmental assessments to see how much damage firms are producing and working with them to reduce their emissions and becoming more sustainable. But at the same time, I am also interested in research work and being hands on.

"My work from helping at the willow tree harvest for the Taeda Tech Project provided first-hand practical experience growing my interest. There I was tasked with roles such as collecting and sorting data. This experience helped me gain key skills such as teamwork and organisation which are crucial for my future career, whatever path it takes."

What would be your advice to new students?

It is important to keep on top of current global events and affairs. My advice would be to approach the course with curiosity and a flexible mindset, as it's useful when trying to see problems and scenarios from multiple perspectives.
