"The Music course here at the University of Surrey is so diverse and varied that it caters for every musical passion."

"The Music course here at the University of Surrey is so diverse and varied that it caters for every musical passion. There are so many different opportunities here and the teaching is excellent, taking place in practical classrooms each with pianos.

The lecturers really care about us individually because of the small classes. They are very approachable and just so passionate about what they teach. The department has ample amount of practice spaces. We also have fantastic recording studios and great concert venues, in which Music and Sound Recording students actually record us for their own coursework. We also have 24-hour access iMac suites with the most up-to-date programmes on, such as Logic and Sibelius, which means we don’t have to buy them ourselves.

I chose the University of Surrey because the Music course is a little bit different to others as performance is not compulsory. But there are extensive performance opportunities available including weekly concerts, and lots of ensembles, orchestras, choirs and bands to get involved in; there are large termly concerts in Guildford Cathedral as well as other venues in and around Guildford.

I am the musical director for the University of Surrey Gospel Choir; it is an amazing experience, which is developing essential skills for my course. The experience of teaching and conducting up to 80 Gospel Choir members is improving my confidence and it is also excellent experience to put on my CV.  I am also part of the University and Chamber Choir.

The atmosphere is really lovely here. It is a great community where I feel so at home; I have made friends for life! Studying Music has inspired and equipped me to do further study in this area and eventually teacher-training qualifications. I am really glad I made the decision to come here."
