Abstract:

Research assessment is important, controversial and demanding.  The UK's REF has many positive features as a research assessment exercise, and is widely imitated.  In this talk, I will give a personal perspective on the mechanisms of research assessment, drawing on my wide experience of evaluation panels.  I will emphasise how researchers can prepare for future research assessments, beginning early in the cycle.  There will be ample time for Q&A.

Biography:

Patrick Haggard leads the Action and Body research group at UCL's Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience. He was an output assessor in REF2014, and a full panel member in REF2021.
